Registration & fees 7
- How do we register a delegation?
Until registration opens, schools request a place by email to conference-management@jlgmun.de. Registration itself takes place on MUNworld from Mid-December 2026 until the beginning of April 2027 – the procedure is the same for German and international schools. Delegations that need Schengen visas should register by 15 January 2027.
- How big can a delegation be, and who can take part?
A delegation has 5 to 15 delegates from Year 8 to Year 12 (approx. ages 13–18). For a smaller or larger delegation, please contact us. No MUN experience is needed: committees are marked Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, so first-time and experienced delegates both find their place.
- How are countries and committees allocated?
Countries and committees are allocated by the end of April 2027. You can state your preferences in the MUNworld registration.
- Can our students apply as chairs or join the press team?
Yes. Please apply by email to conference-management@jlgmun.de by the end of January 2027.
- What does the conference cost, and what is included?
€45–50 per delegate and per advisor; there is no additional school fee. The fee includes conference materials, lunch on all three conference days and snacks. Public transport tickets are not included.
- How and when do we pay?
By bank transfer by mid-May 2027; the school receives an invoice after registration. Fees cannot be refunded, also if a student drops out.
- Is there a waiting list?
Yes. If the conference is full, please write to conference-management@jlgmun.de.
Programme & schedule 5
- Can we combine the conference with a longer trip to Berlin?
Yes – many delegations arrive earlier or stay longer. Please arrive by Thursday morning; the conference ends on Sunday at about 15:30. Social events are optional, so you are welcome to plan your own evenings.
- When will the detailed programme be published?
As soon as possible, at the latest together with the country allocations at the end of April 2027.
- Which parts of the programme are compulsory?
The Opening Ceremony, all committee sessions and the Closing Ceremony. Social events are optional – previous conferences included a delegates’ dinner, a conference evening and a party; the social programme for 2027 will be announced soon.
- Which parts take place outside the schools?
Ceremonies have been held at prominent venues, e.g. the Federal Foreign Office and the Felleshus of the Nordic Embassies (2024) and the Berlin parliament (2026). In 2027 the Opening Ceremony takes place at the British Embassy Berlin.
- How are meals organised?
Lunch is provided at the venue on all three conference days. Vegetarian options are always available; please state allergies and other dietary requirements (e.g. halal, vegan) in the registration.
Supervision & safety 5
- Do delegations have to be accompanied by an adult?
Yes. Every delegation must be accompanied by at least one teacher or adult supervisor, who remains responsible for the students throughout their stay, including outside conference hours.
- What is expected of advisors during the conference?
Advisors are reachable by phone at all times, present during the committee sessions and attend the advisors’ meetings on the first and last day. An advisors’ lounge is available at the school.
- Whom do we contact in an emergency?
The emergency number of the organising team is given to all directors at the beginning of the conference.
- Is there a Code of Conduct?
Yes. It covers respect, diplomatic conduct, attendance, dress code, devices, the use of AI, alcohol and safety, and the consequences of violations. Delegates sign it together with a parent or guardian; you will find it under Downloads soon.
- Are students insured?
Delegates are covered by their own school’s insurance. We recommend travel insurance for international delegations.
Accommodation & travel 4
- Are host families available?
Host families are arranged through the John-Lennon-Gymnasium and the Johann-Gottfried-Herder-Gymnasium. Please indicate your need when you request a place; we confirm by mid-May 2027 but cannot guarantee a host family for every delegate. Advisors arrange their own accommodation.
- Can we arrange our own accommodation instead?
Yes, that is perfectly fine – for example if you stay in Berlin longer. Please let us know when you register; the meeting with the host families on Thursday is then not needed.
- Can you recommend hotels or hostels?
These options are within reach of the conference venue and suitable for school groups:
- Jugendherberge Berlin Ostkreuz, Marktstraße 9–12, 10317 Berlin – closest to the venue via the S-Bahn Ring; membership of DJH or Hostelling International required.
- MEININGER Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz, Schönhauser Allee 19, 10435 Berlin – U2 Senefelderplatz; separate rooms for teachers available.
- a&o Berlin Mitte, Köpenicker Straße 127–129, 10179 Berlin – near Ostbahnhof; budget option.
Please book directly and as early as possible; jlgMUN has no affiliation with these providers.
- Where does the conference take place, and how do we get there?
Committee sessions take place at the Johann-Gottfried-Herder-Gymnasium, Franz-Jacob-Straße 8, 10369 Berlin; the Opening Ceremony is held at the British Embassy Berlin. From Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), regional trains reach Berlin Hauptbahnhof in about 30 minutes. The airport is in fare zone C, so you need an ABC ticket from there; the rest of the city is in zones A and B. During the conference, delegates travel on foot or by public transport, always accompanied by an adult.
Preparation 6
- Which Rules of Procedure does jlgMUN follow?
jlgMUN uses its own Rules of Procedure, adapted to three committee levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) – neither strictly Harvard nor THIMUN style. The current version is part of the Delegate Booklet under Downloads.
- Are position papers required?
Yes in Intermediate and Advanced committees; in Beginner committees they are recommended. The deadline is one week before the conference. Research reports for all committees are published at the beginning of May 2027.
- May delegates use AI tools?
Yes, if they say so. Every position paper and draft resolution comes with the jlgMUN AI Declaration (under Downloads), stating whether and how AI was used and which ideas are the delegate’s own. Undisclosed use of AI excludes the delegate from all awards.
- What should delegates bring?
Western business attire and a laptop or tablet – devices are needed for the debate, and Wi-Fi is provided by the school. All sessions and documents are in English.
- Are pre-written resolutions allowed?
Clauses may be prepared in advance; resolutions are drafted in committee.
- Are there awards and certificates?
Yes, there are awards. Certificates of participation are handed out at the Closing Ceremony.
Documents & visas 3
- Can you provide invitation letters for Schengen visas?
Yes. Please register by 15 January 2027. Once your delegation is confirmed, we issue invitation letters on request from early February, so that you can apply in good time – processing usually takes 15 days but can take up to 45 days.
- Which forms do students need to submit?
The signed Code of Conduct, parental consent, photo consent and an emergency contact and medical information form – one week before the conference.
- Will photos or videos of students be published?
Only with written consent. Without consent, students are not shown recognisably on the website or social media.
